On April 16, 1945, Kittredge was taking part in a bombing raid when his B-26 was hit by enemy fire, according to a news release from Dignity Memorial. Other pilots taking part in the raid said the plane went down and exploded on impact.

You are not forgotten...
These phrases pass our lips with ease sometimes, and we don't realize what it really means. To be able to recover our troops and bring them back means everything to these families. It goes without saying that bringing remains home is not the same as having them walk through that door at their family home, but in this instance, there will be closure.
R.I.P. SSGT Kittredge, you are home.
